L. Gibson's penalty gave Airdrie United a 1-0 home win over Montrose in League One on Saturday. The result halted a run of two consecutive defeats for the Diamonds, moving them up the table.
Gibson converted from the spot four minutes after half-time, the only goal in a match that saw eight yellow cards. Montrose's B. Lyons was booked just before the break, with the visitors' frustration growing as J. Barjonas and C. Oosenbrugh also saw yellow in the second period. Airdrie's S. Fisher, R. Tumilty, C. Smith and substitute M. Yates were all cautioned in a physical contest.
The win follows a 7-1 rout of Berwick Rangers but comes after losses to Peterhead and Alloa Athletic in their last five outings.
The victory provides momentum ahead of a trip to face East Kilbride next weekend. Airdrie United's next match is away to East Kilbride on October 10.
