Airdrie United's hopes of closing the gap on eighth-placed Queen of the South were dashed as keeper Stephen Robertson's late mistake handed Dunfermline an equaliser. The Diamonds had taken the lead through Darren Smith's 83rd-minute free-kick, but Robertson's error in the 93rd minute allowed Greg Ross to nod home. Robertson, who had been named man of the match just moments before, took full responsibility for the mistake. Airdrie manager Kenny Black was gutted, putting the blame for throwing away victory fully on the keeper. The draw means Airdrie and Clyde will likely occupy the bottom two slots. Dunfermline dominated the first half, with Calum Woods causing problems for the home side. Paul Di Giacomo had a good effort blocked by Pars No.1 Paul Gallacher. Substitute Smith struck gold from 25 yards after Greg Shields brought down Simon Lynch. But Airdrie then defended too deep, inviting the Pars forward and allowing Ross to earn his team a point. Pars boss Jim McIntyre said a draw was a fair result, while Black was left to ponder what could have been. Robertson's spectacular save from a goalbound Stephen Glass strike had been a highlight of the match. The keeper had been solid for the majority of the game, but his one mistake proved costly. Airdrie's players were quick to tease Robertson about his mistake, telling him not to bother with the man of the match prize as he'd only drop it. The result leaves Airdrie with a tough task to climb the table, but they will look to pick up as many points as possible in their remaining games.
