Airdrieonians boss John Rankin addresses Declan Gallagher links as the Diamonds seek new signings. Airdrieonians gaffer John Rankin refused to confirm or deny if the club is interested in signing former Motherwell and Scotland defender Declan Gallagher. The Diamonds have been linked with a swoop for the centre-back, who left Ross County at the end of last season, with 35 goals scored and 49 conceded, resulting in a -14 goal difference.
It has been reported that Gallagher has held talks over a potential player-coach role at New Broomfield, where Rankin is yet to appoint an assistant manager or backroom team since taking the reins last month, with the team currently 9th in Championship, 36 pts, 8W-12D-16L from 36 games, and recent form DWDDL. When asked if a move for Gallagher was on the cards, he told reporters: "I have been linked with a number of experienced and good players over the last few weeks.
Rankin did add to his squad yesterday with the arrival of left-back Henry James, following his exit from Hearts, as the team looks to improve its standing, 41 points behind leaders ST Johnstone, and having lost the last 2 games, including a 1-2 defeat to Alloa Athletic on 2026-05-09. James played in yesterday's 2-1 friendly defeat at Ayr United, as Airdrieonians continues to shape its squad for the upcoming season.
