The club has faced financial difficulties in the past, including a $100,000 loss over a four-month period last year. The SNP's John Wilson has called for an immediate investigation into the situation, saying that ScottishPower should work with the stadium to ensure that this situation does not damage its financial standing. A football source has estimated that a monthly gas bill of around $3,500 would be more accurate for a club like Airdrie United, which would come to $84,000 for a two-year period. The current bill is significantly lower than the amount paid by a pensioner or an individual living in a one-bedroom flat. The stadium's gas bill has been tiny, with the monthly bill tending to total no more than $1.29 between March 2009 and November last year. The charge twice rose to $2.63 in the same period. The two latest gas bills are similarly puzzling, with one bill showing a credit of more than $200 due to the stadium. The stadium is owned by Excelsior Stadium LLP, while the stadium is run on a daily basis by Excelsior Stadium Limited. The limited company is responsible for gas payments, and the LLP members are Irene Greene, her husband Sam, and Paul Hetherington. Airdrie United is owned by a separate firm, one of whose directors is Scottish Football League president Jim Ballantyne. The club has also faced well-documented financial difficulties, including a wage issue that was reportedly caused by an administration issue on the back of the general manager leaving. The club's chairman, Jim Ballantyne, has assured people that the stadium is financially secure and on a firm financial footing. The club's next fixture is against Alloa Athletic away on November 7, 2026.
